• DISCRIMINATORY AND REPRESSIVE LEGISLATION TO BAN TARGETED RELIGIOUS MINORITIES
  
  Proposed Draconian Measures
  • An "anti-sect" proposed law authored by MP Catherine Picard passed the National Assembly unanimously on 22nd June. This Bill, which will be voted on by the Senate in the fall, represents the latest effort of extremists such as Alain Vivien, the President of the French government's Interministerial Mission for the Fight Against Sects, to enact repressive legislation designed to infringe upon the rights of targeted minority religions by manufacturing means to ban disfavored minority religions from France.
    
    The Law provides expeditious procedures for the dissolution of organizations deemed to create a "dependency" in their members, to violate human rights, and to have repeatedly committed certain offences. If leaders and members of dissolved religious organizations continue to practice their faith, hold religious meetings or disseminate information regarding their religion, they face the risk of arrest and imprisonment.
    
    This repressive legislation, which received no publicity when it was introduced, was rushed through the National Assembly to avoid debate and scrutiny by international human rights groups and the interfaith community. The proposal's discriminatory intent in contravention of France's human rights obligations is blatantly articulated in the Explanatory Memorandum to the bill, which states that the purpose of the bill "is to paralyze" the activities of organizations with a "sect-like character".
    
    No attempt beyond vague generalities is made to clearly define what groups or clearly delineate what activities are meant to be targeted. The Explanatory Memorandum does note that the repressive and anti-democratic measures contained in the bill are designed to be implemented solely against "sects" and are not intended to be implemented against non-profit organizations, political parties, labor unions or professional organizations.
    
    In spite of the principles of non-discrimination and equal treatment, and in contravention of the European Convention on Human Rights, the French government has determined to arbitrarily classify religious groups into two
    separate categories: 1) religions which are viewed as law abiding and beneficial to society; and 2) "sects" which are viewed as dangerous to society, which are the targets of oppressive and discriminatory measures, and which the government declares must be "fought" against.

  Recently I asked the Founder of Alien&Elite Productions, Jason Adams, to write down a few a words for you, our trusted visitors and members, about his web site, the Ministry of Satanic Discernment and anything that `tickled his fancy'.
  
  It is my contention that Jason is someone really getting down to the business of fostering understanding, tolerance and respect. I think you'll agree but, as always, tell me what you really think:

  "Let me explain a little of what my vision was/is with this project. Initially I wanted to lash out at Christian groups and "occult experts" that talked poorly of Satanism, the occult, and the left hand path in general. I wanted to point out their faults as well. I wanted to make them my "targets". In the process I found that there are groups that claim to be Satanic that need to be targets as well because they give the rest of us a bad name. I also found out along the way that there are non-Satanic groups that are sick of the "evangelism" that goes on T.V., radio, and the Internet. Groups like Mormons, Buddhists, Wiccans, Pagans, and the like were "bashed" by these self-righteous groups like the Christian Coalition, the 700 Club, and the Watchman. For example, the Foundation for Religious Freedom Online doesn't like to promote Satanism but they're will to FULLY promote the Ministry of Satanic Discernment because we're standing up for the little guys out there also. Then I realized that corporations were being "bashed" as well. For example, the makers of the card game, Magic, were labeled as "devil worshippers".
  
  Parents and teachers across the USA are trying to get this game banned! It just grew and grew and grew. It simply made me speechless for a while. But then it angered me on such a level that I took the time, patience, and money to dedicate a space on the WWW and a group of people to respond to these bogus claims. Honestly, how much Satanic Ritual Abuse is real and how much is bullshit? You see? It goes so deep that without a great number of people organized towards this task we will never break any ground that they haven't already paved over with lies and falsehoods.
  
  "My site is an infant in this giant pit of despair. I am not trying to get rich off of this. I am not trying to make Satanists accepted. I am not trying to become famous. In fact, I rather like my anonymity. I only want the lies to be silenced. That can only be done with truth. That can only be done by refuting their lies with facts.
  
  "That requires time, effort, research, hunting, questioning, and hours of agony seeming to go nowhere. I have only created a house for us to reside in. I need us to move in and become snipers from our windows.
  
  "This seems to be a bit long winded, but I wanted to give you a good perspective of where I'm coming from. Now where am I headed? Eventually the Ministry of Satanic Discernment will move to its own web space out of Alien&Elite Productions' shadow. A&E is only there to teach it to fly out of the nest. Once there is a good running staff, I can let it go and move on to another project that will benefit the Satanic Community. Like "Students of Satanism". Or others I have in mind. Or perhaps I can at that point put even more effort into others' projects such as Hellfire Radio". Anything that makes us more powerful is worth doing in my books. This is not to say that I'll ever quit working with/on the Ministry of Satanic Discernment. I'll just do it part time as there will be a full staff to fill in for me.

• NEW Fighting Hate on the Net - BiasHELP 05.26.2000
     As our members and regular visitors are aware, the Foundation for Religious Freedom is a strong proponent of tolerance in society --- extended to everyone and not simply on the basis of religious conviction..
    Lack of tolerance towards the new, the unique and the minority has lead to genocide, legalized torture, unholy wars, revolutions and civil war. But, before monumental, earth-shaking events can take place individual human beings are hurt every day.
    The lack of tolerance ultimately engenders harassment and bias crimes which result in diminished capacity, loss of livlihood, physical pain and even death.
    We are pleased to see a new breed of human rights organizations forming to assist and protect those vulnerable to such attacks. One such organization is BiasHELP of Long Island. They provide information, advice, confidential councelling for victims, community orientation and anything else which will curb bias crimes and hate-related harrasment.
    One of the most common mediums used for promoting hate is the internet. Therefore, one of the best ways to fight back is by adeptly using this medium for tolerance. • Pagan teacher to be disciplined by school 04.16.2000
     According to Robert Mendick, writing for the Independent (Advancement) and This Is Essex, a man was suspended from his High School teaching position in Essex on April 2nd solely for his new role in a Pagan organization.
    The suspension came only one day after an interview with the teacher was published in the Independent on Sunday.The article mentions his and his wife's membership in a local coven (in which she is the high priestess) and their association with the Pagan Federation.
    The teacher, Ralph Morse, faces termination pending an investigation. Governors will assess how far-reaching perceived conflict of interest is between his pagan religious persuits and his role as a teacher. He is being defended by the National Union of Teachers
    I believe this is a clear case of religious discrimination based on the privately-held biases of those involved and a misguided association between pernicious activities and a religious conviction --- which is clearly without basis. At least, not enough to threaten the livelihood and future professional career of a law-abiding citizen --- they can call it 'suspension', 'investigation', or any other words it's plain to me that it is old-fashioned PERSECUTION.
